Welcome to the Show, Mr. Meeker.
Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Christopher C. Meeker author of 'HAWTHORNE: Chronicles of the Brass Hand'
What inspired you to become an author?
To be honest, it was my mother. She was a writer as well; mostly poetry and short stories, and she encouraged me to write too. However I put it off for many years as life seemed to have gotten in the way. It wasn't until she passed away and I found myself re-reading some of her works that I decided to give it a go.
That's a good question. Why NOT Steampunk? It has everything a fiction writer could desire; cool gadgets, steam powered contraptions, limitless universes and alternate histories to explore; the sky's the limit, no pun intended, plus the aesthetic is very appealing to me.
Do you have anything in common with your protagonist, Edgar Hawthorne?
I'd like to think I do, yes. Edgar is a very forthright individual and is constantly trying to do the right thing. I myself try to be such a person as well; placing integrity and honesty at the top of my list of character traits. Do I fail sometimes? Of course! But overall I think I'm doing pretty good.
You have a radio show in the works, I noticed. What can you tell our readers about it?
It's been in the works for a while now and hopefully by the time your readers see this we'll be live on the air. The show is called 'Sunday Evening Radio Theatre' and is an old time radio show featuring shows like Sherlock Holmes, X Minus 1, Suspense, and others. It will also feature guest interviews and listener interaction via a facebook events page. We're really quite excited about it.
What advice do you have for aspiring writers?
Stop aspiring and just write. This is a topic I will be addressing in a future talk. Too many people 'aspire' to be writers rather than actually 'being' writers. As long as you 'aspire' to be a writer you'll never 'be' a writer.
